
MARTIN ZERFAS
PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT

Martin Zerfas is the Principal Consultant for Farm Welfare Consulting and has over 15 years of experience working in civil society and the private sector to improve the supply chain for animal-sourced foods.
Martin's areas of expertise include cage-free eggs and higher welfare beef, chicken, dairy and pork. In 2019, he led the creation of the FARMS Initiative's Responsible Minimum Standards, which are now included in guidance materials from the Principles for Responsible Banking, the Principles for Sustainable Insurance and the Climate Bonds Agricultural Criteria.
His career in farm animal welfare has taken him to Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. He has also worked with companies, financial institutions and organizations located in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
Martin is a Certified Expert in Sustainable Finance and was formerly a commercial litigation attorney, including in private practice and at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. He received a Presidential Volunteer Service Award for his work with OneBrick, a volunteer organization.
